Taiwan official's remarks on independence dangerous: mainland spokesperson

BEIJING -- A Taiwan official's recent remarks on independence are dangerous and presumptuous, said Ma Xiaoguang, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, on Monday.
Ma made the comment in response to remarks advocating "Taiwan independence" by the island's executive head, Lai Ching-te.
The spokesperson said Lai's words harm peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and the fundamental interests of compatriots on both sides, especially Taiwan compatriots.
Ma reiterated that the Chinese mainland and Taiwan belong to one and the same China. As an inseparable part of China's territory, Taiwan will never be separated from China.
"We resolutely oppose any 'Taiwan independence' separatist activities while all secessionist forces are doomed to fail and will receive condemnation from the people and punishment from history," the spokesperson said.
