The Communist Party of China's leadership over the country's youth work must be firmly upheld in the new era, President Xi Jinping said on Monday.
Xi, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remark while meeting with newly elected leading officials of the Communist Youth League of China at the Zhongnanhai leadership compound in Beijing.
Xi said representing the youth, winning their hearts and relying on them secure the Party's continuing success.
Xi congratulated the league's new leadership on the election, saying that they have demonstrated firm resolution and the confidence to implement the requirements of the CPC Central Committee.
The CPC Central Committee has high expectations for the new leadership of the league, Xi said, adding that they should play a leading role in learning the Party's theories, strengthening their beliefs, improving their work style and following the rules.
The league's leading officials are required to create a good image for the league and unite young people of all ethnicities to strive for the goals set at the Party's 19th National Congress.
Xi said that the Communist Youth League of China has made great efforts in guiding young people, safeguarding the interests of the young and deepening reform of the league in the past five years.
