Imports and exports surge in Chongqing
Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality posted a record-high foreign trade of 180.2 billion yuan ($27.8 billion) in the first quarter of this year, according to official data. The figure represents an increase of 60.4 percent over the same period last year, according to Chongqing Customs. Exports surged 75.7 percent to 112.3 billion yuan, while imports reached 67.9 billion yuan, up 40.2 percent on a yearly basis. The city's export surge was mainly the result of its robust growth in export of electronic products.
Wuhan GDP up 58.4%in first three months
GDP growth in the Central China city of Wuhan rose by 58.4 percent to 357.4 billion yuan ($55 billion) during the first three months of this year. The capital of Hubei province, which was hit hard by the COVID-19 epidemic early last year, managed the strong recovery after its GDP shrank by 40.5 percent on a yearly basis during the first quarter of last year due to the extended lockdowns.
