China Unicom net income rises 21.2%

Telecom giant China Unicom has reported a 21.2-percent surge in net profit for the first three months of the year amid efforts to push digital transformation and high-quality development. Net profit attributable to the parent company exceeded 1.69 billion yuan ($260.7 million), it said in a statement to the Shanghai Stock Exchange. Business revenue rose 8.2 percent to 73.92 billion yuan in the reporting period, the company said. The company has put in place 5G network coverage in all Chinese cities, said the statement. China Unicom's 5G users increased by 21.02 million in the first three months, bringing the total number to 91.85 million.

Xinjiang's electricity transmission up 42%

Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region transmitted 29.3 billion kilowatt-hours of locally generated electricity to other parts of the country in the first quarter, up 42 percent on a yearly basis, according to the Xinjiang Electricity Trading Center. A total of 7.5 billion kWh of power was generated by new energy during the same period, accounting for about 25 percent of the total. Xinjiang is rich in coal and wind power resources, and transmits electricity to 20 other Chinese regions.
