PLA responds to US destroyer in Taiwan Straits

The People's Liberation Army's Eastern Theater Command mobilized its air and naval forces to monitor the passage of the USS Milius through the Taiwan Straits on Tuesday, the command's spokesman said.
"The move by the US created security risks and compromised stability in the region. The Eastern Theater Command will take any necessary measures to counter threats and provocations, and safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity," Senior Colonel Shi Yi said in a statement, without elaborating.
Based in Yokosuka in Japan, the Milius is an Arleigh Burke-class Aegis guided missile destroyer and is part of the US Seventh Fleet.
