Shanghai handles over 9m passenger trips during holiday

Shanghai handled about 9.27 million passenger trips during the past Spring Festival holiday, up 62 percent year-on-year, according to official sources.
A total of 3.93 million passenger trips left Shanghai during the eight-day vacation that concluded on Saturday, 83 percent more than the same period of last year, and the entering passenger trips amounted to 5.34 million, rising 49 percent year-on-year, according to data from the municipal government's Spring Festival transport office.
In terms of transport modes, 6.05 million passenger trips were made via railway, surging 54 percent from that of 2023; 2.99 million passenger trips were made by airplane, and 219,300 by road, soaring 77 percent and 91 percent year-on-year, respectively.
Compared to last year, passenger volume has seen a remarkable growth over the Chinese New Year period this year, almost reaching the 2019 level, said the Spring Festival transport office.
Railway travel retained its dominant position in holiday traveling by accounting for 65 percent of total passenger amount, the office added.
