Pakistan, Afghanistan trade grows nearly $1 Billion in H1 2025

The trade volume between Afghanistan and Pakistan reached nearly 1 billion U.S. dollars in the first half of 2025, according to a report by Afghanistan’s news Saturday.

Akhundzada Abdul Salam Jawad, spokesperson for Afghanistan’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce, stated that bilateral trade totaled 989 million dollars, with Afghan exports at 277 million and imports from Pakistan at 712 million dollars.

Jawad noted that Afghanistan mainly imports medical supplies, parboiled rice, sugar, cotton textiles, and raw materials for factories from Pakistan. In return, it exports cotton, coal, onions, tomatoes, raisins, beans, and talc.

Despite the continued closure of the Ghulam Khan border crossing, Afghan exports to Pakistan have risen compared to the same period last year, officials reported.

Khan Jan Alokozai from the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment mentioned that exports, especially fresh produce, are currently being routed through the Chaman, Torkham, Spin Boldak, and Dand Patan border points, many of which were shut during last year’s peak fruit season.
