It took less than six months for the factory to reach this milestone since going into production in February.
Tesla's Megapack is an ultra-large commercial electrochemical energy storage system designed specifically for utility-scale energy storage. Each unit can store approximately 3.9 megawatt hours of electricity, providing efficient solutions for grid stability and renewable energy integration.
The Shanghai Megafactory for energy storage is Tesla's first such facility outside the United States. Construction commenced in Lin-gang on May 23 last year, and the factory achieved the milestone of producing its first product just nine months after acquiring the land. It is expected to produce 10,000 Megapacks annually, with a storage capacity of nearly 40 gigawatt hours.
The Shanghai-made Megapack energy storage systems are supplied to the global market. On March 21, Tesla started exporting Megapacks from Shanghai.
