Chinese shipping firm places record order for grain transport vessels

Cosco Shipping Bulk Co Ltd placed an order for 15 multipurpose grain transport ships on Oct 16, marking the largest single order of its kind, according to the vessels' builder China State Shipbuilding Corp's Shanghai Marine Equipment Research Institute.
The record grain transport ship order was placed on the day that also marked World Food Day. The deal between China State Shipbuilding Corp and Cosco Shipping is expected to help build a highly efficient, environment friendly and cost-efficient grain transportation system in China.
As an essential link between grain production and consumption, the operational efficiency, safety, and reliability of multipurpose grain transport vessels are critical to the entire grain supply chain.
Researched and developed to meet the specific requirements of grain transportation, the vessels are expected to achieve multiple objectives: reducing costs, increasing efficiency, ensuring safety, and protecting the environment, thereby supporting the nation's grain security strategy.
