A school team from Hailing district in Taizhou, Jiangsu province, distinguished itself among 5,000 elite martial artists from 35 countries and regions at the 12th World Grand Wushu Festival in Shanghai recently, earning the first prize in the group event alongside one gold, four silver, and two bronze medals.
The students hail from Hailing's Taizhou Dafeng Junior Middle School, which has been exploring a "wushu+" educational pathway since late 2024.
The school established a practical teaching base in collaboration with the Sports and Health Education College of Nanjing Normal University, Taizhou College, bringing professional coaching teams to provide scientific training.
"As a boarding school with students spending extended time on campus, we've been considering how to create a distinctive educational approach that strengthens both physical health and character while supporting academic development, especially for our rural students," said vice-principal Qian Jianwei.
Initially introduced as an extracurricular club, the school's wushu program has expanded to over 30 dedicated team members.
