Wu Huaiqiu, an official from CREC4, said the diversion of Hefei-Anqing HSR into Hefei Railway Station, has prepared a way for the future Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu Yangtze River HSR to link with the Hefei Railway Station — a transport hub.

The diversion to the throat area at the eastern end of Hefei Railway Station is also aimed at alleviating the maintenance pressure at the Hefei South EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) Depot.

The diversion project was carried out at night when the high-speed trains are not running, Wu said more than 80 operation teams, 58 large machinery and professional equipment of various types were deployed on site, achieving seamless connection and precise operation of multiple processes.

Wu stressed the CREC4 builders have made innovations in completing the task, as it has involved complex construction techniques.

On the site, the builders not only need to make line connections, but also have to complete multiple tasks such as rail welding, track precision adjustment, overhead contact system renovation, and power and communication system switching.

All these had to be conducted simultaneously, he added.
