The latest report on functional autonomous vehicles in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, showed double-digit growth in operational scale and commercial value, demonstrating strong market vitality and commercialization potential.

The monthly report, made by the Shenzhen Intelligent and Connected Transportation Association, pointed out that the number of fresh product deliveries by functional autonomous vehicles in the city exceeded one million, reaching 1.02 million orders for the first time. It represented a month-on-month increase of 13 percent.

Meanwhile, the estimated commercial value created reached 8.7 million yuan ($1.2 million), a rise of 14.5 percent month-on-month.

The report revealed that nearly 800 functional autonomous vehicles were operational in Shenzhen in September, mainly comprising 432 autonomous logistics vehicles and 362 autonomous sanitation vehicles. Among these, 77 percent of the logistics vehicles and 89 percent of the sanitation vehicles were actively in use.

The total operational mileage of autonomous logistics vehicles reached 200,000 kilometers in September, up 21 percent from the month prior. Of this, Meituan's autonomous logistics vehicles accounted for 127,000 km, while Neolix's vehicles covered 58,000 km.

In September, Shenzhen made strides in autonomous vehicle safety drills, commercial partnerships, road usage rights, and new product launches, driving the industry from pilot operations to large-scale commercial use.

Shenzhen has opened 1,257 routes for autonomous vehicles, totaling 3,581 km, with a month-on-month increase of 12.4 percent in total open mileage. Longgang district leads with nearly 1,650 km, followed by Pingshan district with 1,036 km.
