An unfinished huge statue has been torn down after two years' construction in Henan province, China National Radio reported on Tuesday.

The statue, located at the Zhengdong New District in Zhengzhou, was referred to by locals as the statue of Soong Ching Ling, former vice-president of the People's Republic of China, because of its resemblance to the late leader.

Workers at the Henan Soong Ching Ling Foundation told China News Service on Wednesday that the statue was one of the foundation's programs and was named Daughter of the Yellow River, rather than the statue of Soong Ching Ling, after whom the foundation has been named.

A business newspaper said the statue, about 24 meters high and covering a area of 800 square meters, cost about 120 million yuan ($19.56 million).
