Urban management enforcement needs better legislation

By Ma Lie | chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2013-07-26 19:59

A recent poll showed that more than 70 percent of respondents agreed that law enforcement activities by urban management officers should be specified in legislation.

The poll, conducted by the Social Investigation Center of China Youth Daily, showed that 86.9 percent out of 10,707 respondents said they had witnessed conflicts between urban management officers and vendors.

Twenty-one percent of the respondents said they often encountered such cases and 77 percent agreed that legislative bodies should standardize and legislate for urban management activities.

Luo Yameng, director of the China City Management Association, considered that the root cause of conflicts between urban management officers and vendors lies in the irrational urban management system, as there are not enough places for vendors to sell their products in urban areas.
