China cleaning up cyberspace ahead of Intl Children's Day

(Xinhua) Updated: 2015-05-21 20:49

BEIJING-- The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) has launched a special campaign to fight against Internet content that is harmful for the growth of minors ahead of International Children's Day, it said Thursday.

Websites and apps whose users are mostly under age are the main target for the campaign, according to a statement of the CAC.

In a statement issued in April, the CAC said online pornography, violence, terror and superstition would be cleaned up.

After five days of collecting tip-offs and publicity, the CAC will investigate and crack down on the violators until the end of May.

Starting on June 1, it will also hold a week-long educational activity to raise the minors' awareness of cyberspace security.

According to the CAC, the Internet has become a main source of information and socializing for minors and the spreading of vulgar content will affect their mental and physical health.
