Every summer, a series of musical events is held at the Beijing Concert Hall for young audiences.

Launched in 1994, these events, under the title Gateway to Music, will see 54 shows until Aug 28 this year.

The opening concert by the China National Symphony Orchestra, which celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2016, was held on July 8. It was conducted by Hu Yongyan, and was a multimedia event called Flying Symphony. It featured Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite and Camille Saint-Saens' Carnival of Animals.

International musicians will also share the stage.

Cuban classical guitarist Manuel Barrueco will perform on July 16, while the German Quintessence Saxophone Quintet, which is known for adapting classical works such as Vivaldi's Seasons, will perform on July 17.

From July 27 to 30, a chorus festival comprising eight performances, will be held. The performances will include a show by the Berkshire Youth Symphony Orchestra, comprising more than 100 students from the United Kingdom.
