A bolt from the blue　

這條短語(yǔ)在所有講英語(yǔ)的國(guó)家中使用得都很廣泛。而它的含義也正如其字面意義一樣，不難理解。bolt一詞指的是霹靂，而 blue則指碧藍(lán)的天空，英語(yǔ)詞典一般將其解釋為：some thing sudden and unexpected，也就是“突如其來(lái)、始料不及”的意思。

在日常口語(yǔ)會(huì)話中，人們也常用 out of來(lái)代替介詞from。

如：We had been sure she was in Chicago, so her sudden appearance was a bolt out of the blue。
