Instances of lane cutting by motorcyclists in Pingtan have slowly decreased after traffic authorities launched a crackdown on illegal traffic activities in early July.

More than 100 cases of illegal driving were caught on July 1, the first day of the campaign. Nearly 90 cases were found on July 2 and 3 separately, said Lin Mousheng from the local public security bureau.

He adds that traffic police will continue to patrol main roads, including Haitan Road and Xihan Road, during peak hours, and will deal with illegal behavior, lane cutting in particular, more seriously.

Currently, driver's licenses of road violators are confiscated until they finish a two-hour traffic school session.

Many motorcyclists told the Pingtan Times that they were forced to cut in to other lanes because car owners frequently park in lanes for two-wheel vehicles.

But more violators acknowledged that they cut through as a shortcut or out of habit.
