Local authorities have initiated a land acquisition project in some parts of Pingtan county, Fujian province, to make way for the construction of the Fuping high-speed railway line.

The Pingtan section of the Fuping Railway - which links the capital city of Fuzhou and the island county of Pingtan in Fujian province - is expected to begin construction this October.

The plan requires that some villagers in Zhonglou township, Dalian township, Pingyuan township, Luyang township and the town of Suao have to move out by Oct 30.

The relocation also includes some factories, farms, temples and graves that are currently blocking the route of the railway line.

Officials in charge of the land acquisition project said they have started to sign compensation deals with villagers and will do their utmost to assist them.

The project involves an electrified double-track railway with a maximum speed of 200 kilometers per hour spanning a distance of 88.5 kilometers, and will include six intermediate stations.

The line also includes a 14.8-kilometer cross-sea section on the Haixia Rail-Road Bridge.

The project, with an investment of 25.73 billion yuan ($4.2 billion), is expected to take 5 years to complete.
