New policy to ensure education of left-behind children

By Lu Wei Updated: 2017-03-21

Left-behind children in rural areas of Baotou, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, will have easier access to education and a better campus environment, according to a new policy issued by the education bureau of Baotou.

The admission procedure will be simplified for left-behind children to ensure they enroll on time for each semester. More public kindergartens will also be set up in areas where left-behind children live. Also, Baotou will introduce more boarding schools to offer accommodation for children, and more effort will be put into school meals to provide a balanced diet.

Apart from the measures taken to ensure left-behind children get access to education, the policy highlighted the importance of giving lectures on personal safety and legal education. Officials in schools and kindergartens are responsible for informing parents and guardians about their children by phoning them once a month and writing to them once per semester.

Schools will play a more active role in funding children who cannot afford tuition fees and will get in touch with people who are willing to pay tuition fees for left-behind children.
