100 historical buildings in Shanghai will open free to the public on Saturday June 8, which is the 8th China's Cultural Heritage Day.

Visits to the buildings are among 200 activities that will be part of the first Shanghai Citizens Art Festival.

They also include free consultations by renowned traditional Chinese Medicine doctors and an exhibition by Chinese, Japanese and Korean artists. Visit (http://smwhj.wgj.sh.gov.cn) in Chinese for more information.

These activities aim to spread and promote consciousness of the protection of cultural heritage, said Wang Xiaoming, deputy director at Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture, Radio, Television & Film.

The buildings to be open include some new venues, such as the site of the former British Consulate, the Confucius Temple in Jiading district and Astronomical Observatory on Sheshan Mountain.

A forum on the protection of some model historical buildings will also be held. About 30,000 bilingual guides to the city's cultural heritage and important former residences of celebrities will be handed out free to the public on Saturday.

Also, passengers on Metro Lines 8 and 10 will get guides to 30 important historical buildings along those lines on Saturday.

A group from 12 consulates and chambers of commerce will be given a tour of historical buildings.
