There was no hanging back when this daredevil performed his latest feat

The Qiongzhou Strait, which separates the Leizhou Peninsula in Guangdong province to the north from Hainan Island to its south, is on average 30 kilometers wide. On the last day of the year Wang Yong crossed the vast water flying a hang glider, successfully dealing with unpredictable sea winds and conditions, as well as a longer flight time than his previous flights. It is another success after he boldly crossed the Gobi Desert in Gansu province and the Gulf of Jiaozhou in Qingdao, Shandong province.

It takes Wang Yong 26 minutes to hang glide across the 25.5-kilometer Qiongzhou Strait. He hits the toughest stretch midway, where turbulent winds whoosh at up to 11 meters per second. Wang aims for the strand to avoid smashing into the coconut groves that flank the beach. Wang's successful sojourn has given him confidence to try to fly the 180-km Taiwan Straits.
