ROK apologizes for ex-spokesman's sex scandal

Xinhua | Updated: 2013-05-13 18:28

SEOUL - South Korean President Park Geun-hye apologized Monday for the sexual assault scandal involving her ex-spokesman Yoon Chang-jung, according to local media.

"I feel so sorry for letting my people disappointed because of this disgraceful incident, which a public official shouldn't be involved in, happened near the end of my official visit to the United States," Park said in a meeting with senior presidential secretaries on Monday.

Yoon Chang-Jung was sacked last week over allegations that he had sexually harassed a female intern -- a Korean-American -- while accompanying Park on her May 5-9 trip.

Park also apologized to the victim and her family as well as the Korean community in the United States.

"We will cooperate actively with American police to make a thorough investigation. Anyone, who involved in, should cooperate actively in the investigation and take responsibility for this incident," she added.

Park's remarks came after the presidential chief of staff issued an official apology on Sunday over the sex scandal.
