IMF names new resident representative in Greece

Xinhua | Updated: 2013-08-30 11:05

WASHINGTON - The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Thursday announced the appointment of Wes McGrew as IMF's resident representative in Greece, the biggest borrower at the Washington-based global lender.

McGrew will start his assignment on September 2, replacing Bob Traa, whose three-year assignment ends this month, the IMF said in a statement.

McGrew, a US citizen, has been working for the IMF since 2004 and has worked on a number of countries including Ecuador, Turkey and Cyprus, said the IMF.

Before joining the IMF, McGrew held positions at the NASDAQ stock market and at the U.S. Treasury Department.

The IMF, the European Central Bank and European Commission, dubbed as the "troika", have promised two rounds of massive bailout programs for the financially crippled eurozone country.
