People-to-people exchanges across the Taiwan Straits have continued to grow over the past decade and online communication became a major form for interaction between residents on both sides during the COVID-19 epidemic.

"The belief that compatriots across the Straits should promote exchanges, cooperation and development has been widely supported," Zhu Fenglian, spokeswoman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of China's State Council, told a news conference in Beijing late last year.

A growing number of Taiwan compatriots can find development opportunities on the mainland as the policy of equal treatment has been deepened to help them pursue their dreams on the Chinese mainland, Zhu added.
