Fight against corruption a protracted battle with no finish line, official says
China's fight against corruption is a protracted battle with no finish line, an official said at a news conference on Friday.
Jiang Jinquan, director of the Policy Research Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized that the supervisory systems of the Party and the nation will be refined, with the regulation and oversight of power allocation and its exercise strengthened.
He made the remark while explaining the major objectives for the country's economic and social development in the next five years to the public.
On Thursday, the 20th CPC Central Committee concluded its fourth plenary session in Beijing, where participants deliberated over and adopted the Recommendations of the CPC Central Committee for Formulating the 15th Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development.
Citing the recommendations, Jiang noted that China will unswervingly oppose corruption, waging a tough, enduring, and comprehensive battle against it, maintaining the momentum of the anti-graft campaign as an ongoing journey.
"This fully demonstrates our Party's 'zero tolerance' for corruption, its determination to impose strict penalties and its unwavering resolve to eradicate corruption," he added.
He said the recommendations also highlight the ongoing implementation of the guiding principles of the central Party leadership's eight-point code, requiring the correction of inappropriate practices in all areas and calling for a thorough rectification of formalism to reduce the workload at the grassroots level.
The code refers to the improvement of Party and government conduct and the building of closer ties with the people.
In addition, the recommendations outline the construction of grassroots Party organizations across various sectors, urging them to play a pioneering and exemplary role, as this is essential for serving the public and advancing reform and development, according to Jiang.
Moreover, the recommendations also underscore the need to develop intra-Party democracy to ensure decisions are made in a scientific, democratic, and legal manner, as this is crucial for effectively addressing various risks and challenges and helping promote steady and sustainable economic and social development, he added.
