BEIJING - The Red Cross Society of China (RCSC), which was involved in a scandal regarding the misuse of its donations earlier this year, announced that it will make changes to its leadership on Tuesday, according to its official website.

Dr. Zhao Baige, former vice director-general of the National Population and Family Planning Commission, was selected as the RCSC's executive vice president by the ninth council of the RCSC, while Zhao's predecessor Wang Wei was appointed vice president, a concurrent post.

Another two concurrent vice presidents were also selected, according to the RCSC's website.

An official from the organization did not comment on whether the reshuffle was related to the scandal, which caused the organization to suffer a sharp drop in donations.

The group ran into trouble in June, when a woman calling herself "Guo Meimei" posted pictures on her microblog detailing her lavish lifestyle. She claimed to be the general manager of "Red Cross Commerce," a group that the RCSC said does not exist.

The woman's photos provoked the ire of netizens, who speculated that she might have funded her extravagant purchases by embezzling money from the organization.
